Transthoracic Echocardiogram (TTE)

A comprehensive diagnostic ultrasound examination performed by an expert cardiac sonographer to evaluate performance and function of the heart.

This includes:
  • Cost of equipment
  • Cost of supplies (IV Line, imaging enhancer such as Definity)
  • Cardiac sonographer
  • Physician interpretation (Doppler, Global Longitudinal Strain, 3D LVEF)
  • Physician phone call to discuss results

Self-pay price: $910

Scheduled time: 45-60 minutes

Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)

A diagnostic ultrasound examination performed by an expert cardiologist, with help from nursing staff and a cardiac sonographer. This test is usually performed to obtain high-definition images of cardiac valves and other cardiac structures.

Price includes:
  • Cost of equipment
  • Cost to sterilize equipment
  • Cost of supplies (IV Line, imaging enhancer such as Definity)

Self-pay price: $1350

Scheduled time: 90-120 minutes

Nuclear stress test (SPECT)

A form of cardiac stress testing using radioactive isotopes to evaluate heart function at rest and after stress (treadmill or pharmacologic). If radioisotope uptake is abnormal, this may suggest a blockage inside the coronary arteries and higher risk of future heart attack.

Price includes:
  • Cost of equipment
  • Cost of supplies (IV line, radioisotope such as Myoview)
  • Licensing fees
  • Nuclear technician
  • Nursing supervision of stress testing (treadmill or pharmacologic)
  • Continues electrocardiogram (EKG) monitoring
  • Physician interpretation
  • Physician phone call to discuss results

Self-pay price: $1700

Carotid Duplex Ultrasound

A diagnostic ultrasound examination performed by an expert vascular sonographer, used to detect and characterize carotid artery stenosis and risk of future stroke.

  • Cost of equipment
  • Cost of supplies
  • Ultrasound technician
  • Physician interpretation
  • Physician phone call to discuss results

  • Cost of equipment
  • Cost of supplies
  • Ultrasound technician
  • Physician interpretation
  • Physician phone call to discuss results

Self-pay price: $550 (unilateral) or $800 (bilateral)

Scheduled time: 30-60 minutes

Varicose Vein or Spider Vein therapy

This procedure typically requires a vascular ultrasound to identify dysfunctional veins in the lower extremities. Depending on the venous anatomy and tortuosity, one or more of the following therapies can be offered:

  • Venaseal (Medtronic)
  • ClosureFast (Medtronic)
  • Varithena (Boston Scientific)

Given the wide variation in patient anatomy and procedural needs, the cost of therapy can vary significantly. In general, the cost of varicose or spider vein therapy ranges from $450 to $2,000 (does not include cost of venous reflux ultrasound study). Please call to schedule a consultation to discuss individual needs.

Photon-counting CT (PCCT) Coronary Angiogram (Coming soon)

Black Hills Cardiovascular Institute, in collaboration with Black Hills Surgical Hospital imaging center, are pleased to offer a state-of-the-art cardiovascular diagnostic imaging test. At present time, there are less than 20 CT scanners of this kind in the United States of America. Only 1 CT scanner of this type exists within a 1,500 mile radius of Rapid City, SD.

Drs. Thomas and Jeffrey Wilson understand the value of this emerging technology. We are excited to have the best heart scanner in the world arriving in 2025, right here in the Black Hills!
